  • Braking system (163)
There are two general brake design in common use: the disc brake which is a recent development and the drum type brake which was used for many years. Majority of automobiles use disc brake on the front wheels and drum brakes on the rear wheels. When the break pedal is depressed, the pistons in the master cylinder force brake fluid under pressure through the brake lines to the caliper assembly on disc-brake installation or to the pistons in the wheel cylinder on drum-brake installations.
